Inscribed beneath: ‘Alamgir:’ in Persian: ‘‘Alamgir padshah’ (the emperor Alamgir); numbered 6 in Persian inventory note; on reverse: ‘qaimat-i tasvir-i ‘Alamgir 50’ (the price of this picture of Alamgir is 50).

Aurangzeb, facing right, is seated at a window reading (traditionally the ‘Qur’an) .’ He is dressed in white with a gold halo. The grey background has a decorated blind above, matching drape beneath and white surrounding wall with leaf-pattern in gold.
