Inscribed beneath in Persian: ‘Shah ‘Abbas’; on reverse: ‘qaimat-i tasvir-i shah ‘abbas 40’ (the price of this picture of Shah Abbas [is] 40); numbered 1 in Persian inventory note.
Gouache; on an album leaf with a middle border of blue and pink paper woven to a geometrical design, outer border gilt-sprinkled.

Shah Abbas I of Iran wearing a fur hat and embroidered gold coat, stands holding a musket. A ‘talwar’ and dagger are in his belt. His moustache curls at the ends. The background is uncoloured with a band of coloured sky and ground above and below.
