Reverse: four lines of diagonal ‘nasta'liq’ calligraphy written by ‘Ali al-Husaini for Khwaja Mir Wazir; 17th century.
Babur is enthroned on a verandah in a cloistered courtyard, as one of the gathered courtiers stands separately and salutes him. In the foreground is a gateway and two departing horsemen, in the back ground, a palace with figures in discussion.
Note: This could be a detached illustration from a manuscript of the ‘Baburnama’ as shown by comparison with the illustrations of this scene in known manuscripts of the work: ‘Delhi’ ‘Baburnama,’ f.298v; British Library Ms.Or. 3714, f.417v; and ‘Moscow’ ‘Baburnama’ (Tyulayev (1960), pl.64).
