Numbered 8 in Persian inventory note; with description ‘shabih-i hazrat-i mariam va hazrat-i ‘isa alaihi ‘s-salam’ (a picture of the Virgin Mary and Jesus upon whom be peace).
Drawing with light shading and gold; on an album leaf with three inner gilt-decorated borders, and an outer margin of floral decoration.
182 by 122 mm; page 415 by 292 mm.
Reverse: a quatrain written diagonally in ‘nasta‘liq’ calligraphy; signed by Mir ‘Ali, the background illuminated; 16th century.
The Virgin Mary kneels before the Christ Child who lies within a gold halo. Angels attend and descend from above and animals are in the foreground.
