Inscribed beneath in Persian: ‘chehrah-i gujeratin ‘amal-i muhammmad afzal’ (the visage of a Gujerati girl, the work of Muhammad Afzal).
Gouache with gold; on an album leaf with two borders of gold arabesques and an outer gilt-sprinkled margin.
146 by 93 mm; page 305 by 213 mm.
Reverse: a contemporary illustration of a flowering lotus plant with two birds.

DESCRIPTION:The lady, facing right, is seen threequarter length, holding a sprig of white narcissus, and dressed in yellow, orange and green: green background.
Note: Muhammad Afzal appears, on grounds of style, to have worked in close association with Govardhan. A picture by him is in the Binney Collection (Binney (1973), no.85).
