Numbered 4 in Persian inventory note; inscribed on reverse:’ padshahzadi kar-i faranq bar’ ... (a princess, European work ... ).
Gouache with gold; on an album page with two ‘masnavi’ verses set above and below; outer margin of gilt floral arabesques.
236 by 179 mm; page 357 by 201 mm.
The princess is seated on a gilt chair with footstool upon a terrace; one of her attendants is offering her fruit, and the other holds a ‘morchal’. A crocodile is hunted from a boat on the river beyond, and a huntsman chases deer on the far bank.
