Inscribed beneath in Persian: ‘‘amal-i mulchand musavvir’ (the work of the painter Mul Chand); on reverse: ‘‘amal-i mul chand, 3’ (the work of Mul Chand, 3); numbered 24 in Persian inventory note.
Gouache with gold; border of pale yellow paper lightly sprinkled with silver.
209 by 132 mm; page 268 by 178 mm.
A girl sits in a grove near a river, arranging flowers on the grass around her; some of the trees and climbers are in blossom of different colours, but she has selected only pink ones including lotuses. In the left background are white buildings against a coloured sky.
Note: This is perhaps a variation of ‘Gormalar Ragini’ where a girl arranges flowers, normally on a bed; but it is also open to interpretation as ‘Malasri’ or’ Gauri Ragini.’
