Signed on background in Persian: ‘‘amal-i ‘aqil’ (the work of ‘Aqil); inscribed below: ‘ruh’ ‘allah khan sani’ (Ruh Allah Khan Sani); numbered 39 in Persian inventory note; on reverse: ‘‘amal-i anup chhatar’ (the work of Anup Chattar); numbered 10 in Persian numerals.
Gouache with gold; on an album page with narrow gold border and outer margin of pink paper.
169 by 103 mm; page 276 by 183 mm.
Ruh Allah Khan, facing right, stands with wine-red sword, ‘talwar, katar’ and belt, wearing a white jama decorated with gold leaves. There is a plain background with coloured sky at the top.
Note: Ruh Allah Khan Sani (the second), originally Khanazad Khan, was honoured with his father’s title and held office as Grand-Steward and Treasurer under Aurangzeb. He died in AH1115/AD1703-1704 (Shah Nawaz Khan (1911-52), II, 616).
