Shah Jahan is enthroned on a gold chair receiving a falcon for inspection from Dara Shikoh who stands in front of him. Shah Shuja‘ is on the left. ‘Alamgir and Murad Bakhsh stand behind the throne on the right. A line of poppies crosses the foreground, and there are clouds above with an angel bearing a scroll and gold canopy.
Note: The composition is possibly based on the Mughal version, previously in the Ardeshir Collection (Sotheby, 26 March 1973, lot 22).
