Note: The style of the series is essentially a provincial or Popular Mughal style, but the precision of treatment of the leafy trees and the figure-type, particularly of the females, points to Bikaner as the place of origin. The original appearance has been altered, for the pictures are now mounted on eighteenth-century album pages, and incorrect Persian identifications have been written on the reverse. The series was made up to a total of thirty-four in Johnson’s time by the addition of contemporary and eighteenth-century pictures (‘see’ remaining pictures of Album 30).
