An embroidered picture of fruit and blossom, European after a Chinese pattern, on an Indian album leaf
- Scope & Content:
-
Embroidered picture of fruit and blossom.
18th century.
Richard Johnson Collection. Purchased 1807.
Numbered 8 in Persian inventory note on reverse.
Embroidery in coloured silks on paper; cut out and laid down on paper with ruled ink margins; mounted on Indian paper.
82 by 111 mm; page 189 by 124 mm.
A branching twig bears a stellate pink blossom and a ripening pink and green fruit.
Note: This is probably the work of a European or Indian embroiderer following a Chinese pattern. It was perhaps given to Johnson who had it mounted on Indian paper and included with his miniatures.
