[Variant of The Soliloquy of the Broom.] Photographer: Talbot, William Henry Fox
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
View of a broom propped up across the right side of an open door. Chemistry float-applied on paper 184 x 222 mm. This was the second version of this compositional arrangement: the first was taken a year earlier and does not include the window at right, mentioned in letter from Elizabeth Feilding to Talbot, dated 12 January 1842. The harness and lamp that were also used in the 1844 photograph 'The Open Door' are not present here.
For a discussion on the comparison of these images, see Larry J. Schaaf, 'The Photographic Art of William Henry Fox Talbot' (Princeton University Press, Princeton and London, 2000), p. 106.
