One of three copies (prints 251-253) of this subject, a view of multi-boled oak tree on the estate of Talbot's uncle, Sir Charles Lemon. Chemistry float-applied on paper 187 x 228 mm, from a negative trimmed at all four corners.
For a discussion of this image, see Larry J. Schaaf, 'The Photographic Art of William Henry Fox Talbot' (Princeton University Press, Princeton and London, 2000), p. 120. Schaaf notes that this image was marketed by Henneman under the above title, and also supplies evidence for the dating of the photograph. The prints in the British Library are later than the example shown by Schaaf, which comes from the National Media Museum and only has two of the corners of the negative trimmed.
