[A stand of oak trees.] Photographer: Story-Maskeyne, Nevil
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Landscape Photography
One of two copies (prints 254 and 255) of this subject, a view looking across a meadow with a stand of four oak trees in the left foreground. It has previously been assumed that this was Talbot's work and it was speculated that the trees form the group known as the 'Four Sisters', located at Innwood, between Lacock and Beanacre. However, the negative forms part of the Story-Maskelyne Collection and the photograph is therefore more likely to be his work. The negative, at Photo 1194/1 (++), is inscribed in pencil on the reverse: 'B.A. [British Association] Southampton meeting 1849? Tinted photo.' Chemistry float-applied on paper 189 x 230 mm. Finger prints in bottom right corner and tears on bottom and right edge of paper (image unaffected).
