One of three copies (prints 260-262) of this subject, showing two men seated at a table over a game of chess. The figure on the left, looking towards the camera, has been identified as the French photographer Antoine Claudet; his top-hatted opponent, who remains unidentified, stares intently at the chessboard. As this photograph is on paper not normally used by Talbot, it seems likely that the photograph was taken by Claudet in his London studio. Variant of Talbot Photo 2 (263). Image used as plate 24 in Nicolaas Henneman's 'Talbotypes or Sun Pictures' published in 1847. Chemistry float-applied on paper 246 x 170 mm.
