Head and shoulders daguerreotype portrait of William Henry Fox Talbot, facing directly into the camera. Ninth plate daguerreotype in a Beard black lacquer frame, with gilded mat and hanger. The mat is decoratively designed with dolphins and cranes and along the bottom edge is inscribed 'Beard Patentee'. The clasp for the hanging ring is in the shape of a bunch of grapes. Dimension of frame 145 x 140 x 7 mm. Bottom right corner slightly chipped. Attached to the back of the frame is a mint green sheet of paper containing the patent label. 'Wolcott's reflecting apparatus' was a prism which corrected the laterally reversed image of the daguerreotype.
