Head-and-shoulders daguerreotype portrait of William Henry Fox Talbot, facing towards the left. Ninth-plate daguerreotype in a Beard black lacquer frame, with gilded mat and hanger. The mat is decorated with scrolls and flowers and encased with a plain brass border. The clasp for the hanging ring is in the shape of a bow and has been inscribed with 'Beard Patentee'. Dimension of frame 91 x 105 x 7 mm.Attached to the back of the frame is a mint green sheet of paper containing the patent label. 'Wolcotts's Reflecting Apparatus' was a prism which corrected the lateral reversal of the daguerreotype image.
