Daguerreotype view taken from an elevated vantage point on the île de la Cité, looking down onto the Pont Neuf and along the Seine in a westerly direction. Note that the view, as is usual with daguerreotypes, is laterally reversed, with the Louvre in the left background and the Hôtel des Monnaies in the right foreground. The photograph was taken at eleven o'clock in the morning with an exposure time of 28 seconds. Whole-plate daguerreotype, in thin passe partout frame, overall dimensions: 166 x 217 mm. On the back of the frame inscribed in ink: 'The glass of the original passe-partout framing of this daguerreotype having been broken, an oxidisation developed across the face. This was removed and the plate reframed in February 1945 by Mr Pledge, Curator of Kodak's Museum at Harrow. H.W. [Harold White]'
