An ambrotype that partially covers a piece of glass; a view taken from the lawn, it shows the side of a country estate with a section of a conservatory. The image is backed with black varnish and produces a positive image on the verso. The item had an accompanying envelope, which was inscribed, 'The first man who invented photography/ Fox Talbot; One of the first photographs/ taken/ given to me by Mr. Taylor/ 15/7/37'.
