The Bridge of Orleans. Photographer: Talbot, William Henry Fox
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Urban Topographical Photography
Plate 12 of Matilda Gilchrist-Clark's bound copy of 'The Pencil of Nature'. A view taken at an oblique angle of the George V Bridge from the bank of the Loire, with the town and Cathedral of Sainte-Croix on the skyline beyond. Chemistry float-applied to paper 135 x 206.
The text that accompanies the plate reads, 'This view is taken from the southern bank of the river Loire, which passes Orleans in a noble stream. A city rich in historical recollections, but at present chiefly interesting from its fine Cathedral; of which I hope to give a representation in a subsequent plate of this work.'
