Introduces Mr Bonham to Canning. Mr Laing, Financial Secretary at the Treasury is an excellent man and is going to India. The great European event of the year has been the emancipation of Italy. Lord Dalhousie is bearing up gallantly. Sends enclosed letter from F Bonham, dated 16 Oct, introducing his nephew. The nephew does not want any patronage from Lord Canning but simply an introduction that would give him the chance to explain the circumstances under which he was forced to return from India, having been three times wounded in the siege of Lucknow.
