Expresses disappointment at the non-receipt of an official account of General Windham's defeat. Hopes the Commander in Chief [Sir Colin Campbell] will soon occupy Oudh from the North West while Jung Bahadoor advances from the South East. Refers to the question of Jung Bahadoor's loyalty. Asks about the story that the Government has refused assistance, in the shape of Hackeries and attendance on them, proffered by the native Christians of Kishnaghur, because they were Christians. Discusses supplies of horses. States he has always avoided English politics in writing to Lord Canning, and will not break his rule now; Her Majesty's Government have announced their intention to dispense with the Court. The Court is endeavouring to make clear to the public how well they have governed India, and how essential such a body is. Feels such a question should not have been brought at such a critical time. Sends a copy of correspondence with Lord Palmerston (not enclosed). He is still unwell, and overworked.
