Awaits with anxiety the next telegraph of news. There are many complaints of poor General Anson's delay. More reinforcements are being sent. Canning seems to have acted excellently over Colvin's proclamation; in fact his conduct has been faultless, and is praised everywhere even in the most venomous circles of action where Ellenborough leads. Discusses some of Ellenborough's suggestions; that Canning may be short of money; that he should have power to appoint an Extra Councillor; that he should have power to leave Calcutta without consent of his Council . Sir Henry Lawrence has been appointed Provisional Governor General in case of Canning's illness, he would not like to see India in the hands of Mr Dorin.
