Writes that Lord Canning's Despatch on Oudh affairs has appeared. Stanley does not propose to publish any more papers on the subject, unless they are asked for in Parliament. Asks if it is safe yet for the Rajah of Puttiala to leave his territory. The adventurer D'Orgoni has been continually asking for a interview with Stanley which was eventually granted, with Sir George Clerk as a witness. He talked much to little purpose and produced a French passport and a letter from the French Colonial Minister, offering to pay his expenses out. He wanted to know the intentions of the Government of India concerning him, Stanley gave him no answer whatever. Private.
