The insurrection in Kimmedy is subdued or at least has failed to increase. The leaders have not yet been captured. Asks if Canning has seen the 1855 correspondence on Jeypore. The Madras Government wished to take over the management of the country, as the Rajah was in a state of second childhood and allowed the country to deteriorate. But Dalhousie would not agree, and was very stubborn on the subject. More troops will be needed to deal with the troubles arising from Jeypore. Recommends Canning to drink water instead of wine for his health.
