- Title:
- 8. Letter from Lord Harris
- Scope & Content:
-
Sends a list of available officers, only knows the two in the 29th Regiment who would not do for Public Works. Describes the Tour he is about to make. The Tanjore and Arcot papers have been disposed of. Probably some relief will have to be given to the thousands of dependents, who cannot possibly find employment within 3 months. Sympathises with Canning over Lord Dunkellin's unfortunate business. Dunkellin did not call. Harris has written again about the Police. Asks if it is true that Lady Canning's chairs were wrecked en route.
Enclosed: List of Officers doing Regimental duty who under existing Regulations are available for detached employ, 12 Sep 1856.
