- Title:
- 68. Letter from Sir William Denison
- Scope & Content:
-
Has received Canning's telegram and sent Mr Rundall to meet the Governor General at Coconada. He would have like to have met the Governor General himself but is expecting his wife to arrive. Suggests alterations to some of the details of the Godavery scheme. To get sufficient water for the river in the dry season, it must be stored at the time of the monsoon. To store water on the Nizam's territory would lead to endless disputes. The outlet of the Godavery will have to be turned further south, because the river brings down so much silt it will spoil the anchorage. If Lady Canning wishes to avoid the discomforts of the trip up-river, Denison would be glad to welcome her at Madras.
