Forwards one of Murray's letters [not enclosed], and a copy of a letter from Rawlinson [not enclosed] which emphasises the difficulty of transport in Persia. Colonel Jacob fears that unless a trustworthy officer is sent to Kelat, the Khan's resources will be misapplied. The Persians have taken Subsowar and Furrah, two towns to the west of Herat, probably important places to an Army in possession of Herat and wishing to take Kandahar. Apart from the intervention of disease, or an early winter, Elphinstone does not see how the Persians can be prevented from taking Kandahar if Herat has fallen; but he does not believe the Sedr Azim will persevere after receiving Clarendon's letter. The 'Feroze' has sailed for Bushire with the Commissariat and Quarter Master General's officers. Somerset has arrived. Elphinstone sends a copy of a letter from Stevens [not enclosed] .
