Has informed General Stalker of the Governor General's decision on the subject of inland operations. It does not seem incompatible with Her Majesty's Government's decision on Mohummerah. Mohummerah is too unhealthy to be occupied in summer, but the force could be established at Shuster. The Karoon river itself seems to be more healthy than its banks. It seems that Shuster is more important than Elphinstone had previously realised. Unless Elphinstone hears from Canning to the contrary, he will send on the orders expected by the next mail to General Stalker, giving Stalker freedom to act, or to wait for reinforcements. One European and One Native Infantry Regiment and a Battery will be held in readiness at Bombay. Hopes the Cavalry could be sent dismounted, as the cost of sending horses is great, and every horse that would be sent was originally imported from the Gulf. The embarkation is going on very quietly.
