Response on marriage law
Contents
A response on marriage law.
Language(s): Hebrew
ff. 190r-191vTitle: TeshuvahTitle: תשובהThis document is bound in a volume of 'Letters and Papers relative to the divorce of Henry VIII.'
A reply of Jacob Rafael of Modena to a question of Messer Francisco Curtiso relative to the law of levirate. The question proposed is whether the law of levirate as given in Deuteronomy 25:5,6 was originally understood to limit the prohibition of Leviticus 18:16, or not. The answer is in favour of the first alternative, and thus adversed to the contention of Henry VIII.
