Copies of letters from HM Ambassador to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, to Governor-General of the Presidency of Fort William, Lord Minto. The letters are enclosures to Ouseley's dispatch No. 2 of 21 April 1811 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/100).
The letters included are:
- No. 1, from Bombay [Mumbai], dated 28 January 1811
- No. 2, from Abusheher [Bushire], dated 23 March 1811
- No. 3, from Abusheher, dated 25 March 1811
- No. 4, from Alichangi [Gorak Alykh Changi], dated 27 March 1811
- No. 5, from Shiraz, dated 18 April 1811.
The letters cover Ouseley's departure from Bombay, arrival in Abusheher, and his journey to and arrival in Shiraz. Several matters are discussed in the correspondence, including:
- The state of affairs in Persia, including the activities of the French and Russians
- The reception given to him by the Persians at Abusheher, Shiraz, and the towns along the route between the two
- The appointment of Muhammed Zeki Khan as his mehmandar (official escort)
- The conduct of Sir Harford Jones
- The effect of drought on the procurement of supplies and carriage for their journey
- Financial matters relating to the expenses incurred during his trip.
Ships mentioned in the correspondence are HMS Lion and Fateh ul Vadud Grab.
