Copy of a letter, numbered 15, from HM Ambassador Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, in Tehran, to HM Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Marquis Wellesley, of 30 December 1811; and a translation of a letter from the Shah of Persia, Futeh Ali Shah [Fath-Ali Shah Qajar], to Marquis Wellesley. Ouseley’s letter encloses the Shah’s letter, which contains the Shah’s grateful effusions for Marquis Wellesley’s conduct towards Persia and the appointment of Ouseley as ambassador. Ouseley’s letter also reports that the Shah has awarded Marquis Wellesley the Order of the Lion and the Sun.
The letters were enclosed in Ouseley’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 5 January 1812 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/112), which was received from HM Secretary of State’s office on 1 July 1812.
