Copy of a letter, numbered 3, from HM Ambassador Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, in Tabriz, to the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Court of Directors of the East India Company, of 24 June 1812, which was received on 16 November 1812. The letter concerns the attitude of the Shah of Persia towards the East India Company, and includes two enclosures.
One enclosure is a translation of a letter from the Grand Vizier of the Shah of Persia, Meerza Mahammed Shefi [Mirza Muḥammad Shafī‘ Māzandarānī], to the Chairman and Court of Directors of the East India Company, which communicates the Shah’s good will towards the Company.
The other enclosure is a translation of a letter from the Shah of Persia, Fateh Ali Shah Kajar [Fath-Ali Shah Qajar] to the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the Court of Directors of the East India Company, which communicates his good will and explains that he had been previously unaware of the situation and powers of the East India Company, and its friendly intentions and good faith towards Persia.
