- Scope & Content:
- Copy of a secret letter from the Secret Committee of the East India Company, in London, to the Earl of Buckinghamshire, of 22 August 1812. In the letter the Secret Committee requests that the Earl of Buckinghamshire draw to the attention of HM ministers the payment of a subsidy to Persia by the East India Company, which it is required to pay while Persia remains at war with Russia, and the need for peace between the two sides to be negotiated to relieve the Company of this obligation. The letter also communicates the opposition of the Secret Committee to an article of the Definitive Treaty between Britain and Persia which supports the Crown Prince of Persia, Abbas Mirza’s claim to the Persian throne.
