Copy of a letter from the Governor-General of the Presidency of Fort William, the Marquess of Hastings [Francis Rawdon-Hastings, the Earl of Moira], in Fort William, to HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, of 28 June 1817. In the letter Hastings declines to confirm Willock’s appointment of an assistant, Cornet George Willock, on the basis that he does not have the authority to approve the charge of Cornet Willock’s salary to the East India Company.
The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 15 December 1817 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/170), which was received on 18 April 1818.
