Copy of a letter from the Resident at Bushire [Būshehr], William Bruce, to the Governor-General of the Presidency of Fort William, the Earl of Moira, of 1 May 1814. The letter relates to the affair concerning the debts and imprisonment of Mahomed Nebbee Khan [Muḥammad Nabī Khan], in which Bruce acted as an arbitrator (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/181). Bruce requests for bills to be paid for the money spent on clearing Khan’s debts in advance of his pension, and also details the instructions of HM Ambassador Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, for him to deduct a further sum paid in advance for settling Khan’s debts from the next instalment of the subsidy paid by the East India Company to Persia (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/182).
The letter was enclosed in the letter of HM Chargé d'Affaires to Persia, Henry Willock, to HM Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Viscount Castlereagh, of 4 December 1818 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/179), which was received on 29 April 1819.
