Copy of Dispatch No. 15 from HM Chargé d’Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, in Tehran, to HM Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Viscount Castlereagh, of 20 May 1819. Matters relating to relations between Persia and the Ottoman Empire are discussed, including:
- The refusal of the Pacha of Bagdad [Pasha of Baghdad] to pay the annual tribute to Persia, and the dispatch of a Persian agent to Bagdad following rumours of the counterfeiting of Persian currency there
- The interference of the Prince of Kermanshah, Mahomed Ali Mirza [Muḥammad ‘Alī Mīrzā Dawlatshāh], in events in Bagdad, where there is a dispute between the Pacha and a discontented chief, Mahomed Pacha [Maḥmūd Pāshā], detailed in a letter from the Prince to the Persian Foreign Minister, Mīrzā ‘Abd al-Wahhāb, a translation of which is enclosed (not included in this item, see IOR/L/PS/9/68/197)
- The role of the Prince Royal [Crown Prince] of Persia, ‘Abbās Mīrzā, in restoring the Pacha [Pasha] of Van to his position.
The dispatch was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 21 May 1819 (see IOR/L/PS/9/68/195), which was received on 28 August 1819.
