Letter from Daoud Khan [Prince Dāvūd Khān Zādūriyān] to Abbas Meerza [Crown Prince of Persia, ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār] (IOR/L/PS/9/70/163 (A)), and an English translation of the letter (IOR/L/PS/9/70/163 (B)). The letter concerns Daoud Khan’s mission to Constantinople [Istanbul], including details of:
- Daoud Khan’s efforts to get passports and permission to enter Poland and his efforts to contact Prince Constantine [Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich of Russia]
- Details of the conclusion of peace between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, and the Ottoman efforts to muster troops
- The dispatch of a large Russian force from Crimea to Georgia
- A French offer of mediation in the war between Russia and Persia [Iran] in the Caucasus [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]
- Russian representations at Constantinople concerning the outbreak of the war between Russia and Persia, and the responses of the ambassadors there to reports of Persian advances towards Tiflis [Tbilisi].
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 2, in the letter of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 23 December 1826 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/156).
