Letter from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Marquess of Clanricarde, at the Foreign Office, to the former HM Chargé d’Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, of 12 December 1826. The letter originally enclosed copies of dispatches Nos. 1-3 from HM Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, George Canning, to Willock, which Willock would not have received prior to his departure from Teheran [Tehran] (dispatch No. 1 and its enclosures are now catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/70/170-172; dispatches Nos. 2-3 are now catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/70/173-174). In this letter, the Marquess of Clanricarde indicates that the enclosed dispatches contain the approbation of Willock’s conduct by His Majesty’s Government.
This document was originally enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 6 January 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/168).
