- Letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, in Tabreez [Tabriz], to the Secret Committee of the East India Company, of 23 March 1827, which was received from the Foreign Office on 23 May 1827. The letter originally enclosed copies of Macdonald Kinneir’s dispatches Nos. 40-43 to the Supreme Government of India, and their enclosures (now catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/70/193-200, 201-203, 204-208 and 209-213). The letter details a build-up of Russian troops on the banks of the River Araxes [Aras], and the assembling of forces by Abbas Meerza [Crown Prince of Persia, 'Abbās Mīrzā Qājār] at Tabreez. Macdonald Kinneir gives his impression that the Russian build-up of troops is intended to obstruct the completion of a fortress by Abbas Meerza near the Arras [Aras] and Aslandooz [Aslan Duz]. The letter also reports the arrival of the mission of Meerza Mohomed Ali [Mirza Muhammad 'Ali Khan Shirazi] at Tiflis [Tbilisi].
