Translation of a letter from the Vizier of the Crown Prince of Persia [Iran], the Kaim Mukam [Mīrzā Abū al-Qāsim Farāhānī, Qāʾim-Maqām], to the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir. The letter is in reply to Macdonald Kinneir’s letter appealing for the good treatment of a group of Russian officers held as prisoners of war by the Crown Prince, Abbas Meerza ['Abbās Mīrzā Qājār] (see IOR/L/PS/9/70/210). In the letter the Kaim Mukam indicates that money and clothes have been sent for the benefit of the prisoners, and orders have been given for their good treatment. He also reports that orders have been given for a Mehmendar (escort), who acted improperly towards another group of Russian prisoners on their journey to Tiflis [Tbilisi], to be severely punished for his misconduct, the details of which are not specified.
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 2 in No. 43, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 23 March 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/192).
