A letter, in Russian, from Colonel Nauzemiff [Colonel Fyodr Nazumov], a Russian prisoner of war, to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, of 28 February 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/213 (2)), and an English translation of the letter (IOR/L/PS/9/70/213 (1)). In the letter, Nauzemiff thanks Macdonald Kinneir for quantities of cloth, sugar and coffee that he and the rest of a group of Russian prisoners of war have received from him, and reports the receipt of money and clothing sent by the Prince Royal [Crown Prince of Persia, ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār]. He also indicates that half of the money received from the Prince Royal was taken by the Commandant.
These documents were originally enclosed, numbered 4 in No. 43, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 23 March 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/192).
