Copy of a letter from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, David Wilson, in Bushire [Bushehr], to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, of 18 April 1827. In the letter Wilson reports that a courier carrying a packet of letters has been robbed on the road to Shiraz, detailing his efforts to retrieve the packet and supply copies of the documents contained within it. Wilson also indicates that he believes one of the lost letters was from the Governor-General of India to Macdonald Kinneir, and which stated that the Government of India was intending to await orders from England before supplying any of the subsidy claimed by Persia.
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 6 in dispatch No. 49, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 22 June 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/1).
