A copy of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran] Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir to John McNeill, Surgeon to the British Mission in Tehran, sent from Tabreez [Tabriz] and dated 3 November 1827.
The letter forwards correspondence relating to the ongoing war between Persia and Russia [Russo-Persian War, 1826-1828]. Macdonald Kinneir asks McNeill to meet the King [Shāh, Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār], impress on him the gravity of the military situation, and urge him to pay an instalment of the money demanded by Russia to secure an end to hostilities. Macdonald also mentions his efforts to bring Abbas Meerza [Crown Prince of Persia ‘Abbās Mīrzā Qājār] into talks with Russian representatives.
This letter was originally enclosed, numbered 15 in 75, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 9 December 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/107).
