A copy of a letter from John McNeill, Surgeon to the British Mission in Tehran, to the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran] Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, sent from Tehraun [Tehran] and dated 5 December 1827.
The letter describes a meeting between McNeill and the Shah [Fatḥ-‘Alī Shāh Qājār]. McNeill reports that the Shah has given orders for the payment of an instalment of money demanded by Russia from the Persian Government in exchange for the withdrawal of its troops from Persia, and has dropped the condition whereby the proposed new treaty between Russia and Persia must be referred to the Shah for his approbation.
This letter was originally enclosed, numbered 5 in 77, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 15 December 1827 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/129).
