Translation of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Abbas Mirza [ʿAbbās Mīrzā Qājār, Crown Prince of Persia], dated 27 Jemde ul Awal [27 Jumādá I AH 1243] [16 December 1827]. Macdonald Kinneir indicates that he sent one of his assistants, Dr John Cormick, to meet the Kaim Mukam [Mīrzā Abū al-Qāsim Farāhānī, Qāʾim-Maqām, Vizier of the Crown Prince] but that Dr Cormick did not manage to meet him. He also agrees to Abbas Mirza’s request for another of his assistants, Captain John Nicholl Robert Campbell, to accompany the Kaim Makam, indicating that it will therefore be necessary to apprise General Paskevitch [General Ivan Fyodorovich Paskevich-Erivansky, Governor-General of Georgia] of this arrangement.
This letter was originally enclosed, numbered 11 in dispatch No. 79, in Macdonald Kinneir’s letter to the Secret Committee of the East India Company of 21 January 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/154).
