This black and white printed sketch map of the city of Astarabad [Gorgan] in Persia [Iran] shows the following features: the crenelated walls of the city; the garden of Abbas Khan; government buildings, the telegraph office, and the magazine; the Russian consulate; the British consulate; the Masjid-i-Juma; the musalla; and telegraph lines.
The shaded portion of the city shows the inhabited area. Relief is indicated by contours and spot heights.
The sketch map was created in the Intelligence Branch of the Quarter Master General’s Department in India in May 1885 (and printed the 1886 edition of Volume I of the Gazetteer of Persia), and was executed by ‘J. A. A.’.
