Folio manuscript volume containing the minutes of the Commissioners of the Public Accounts from 1 May 1694-5 January 1695.
At this time the members of this commission included Sir Thomas Clarges, Paul Foley Esq, Sir Thomas Pope Blount, Charles Hutchinson Esq, Sir Edward Abney, Sir James Houblon, and Robert Harley Esq [later Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford and Mortimer], whose collection this volume is from.
On f. 1. is inscribed a memorandum signed by Robert Harley and Thomas Pope Blount, 'the Two Commissioners first names on the Act passed at the Session of Parliament begun at Westminster the Seventh day of November 1693'.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
