Manuscript journal of John Fairman on board HMS Woolf, under the command of Captain George Purvis, 19 August 1690-19 December 1691.
Contents:
- ff. 1-44v: Jounral of John Fairman on board HMS Woolf, 19 August 1690-19 December 1691.
- f. 45v: Short notes of tobacco sold by the Captain of the ship, and gunpowder sold, underhand, by the Gunner of the ship.
- f. 46: Old vellum cover of the volume on which is pasted 'George Selvest, His Booke March ye 25th Anno Dommini 1695. On the other side of the vellum is a table from July 1694 showing English and Dutch ships in the Straits of Barcelona.
This manuscript is bound with Harley MS 466 and Harley MS 5151. Harley MS 466 is another journal from this period on board HMS Woolf.

Owned by George Selvest in 1695.
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
