This item consists of copies of correspondence, consultations, and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, political letters from the Government of Bombay. These political letters appear in IOR/F/4/2349/123808. The correspondents are: the Government of Bombay; Major Samuel Hennell, British Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; and the Government of India. It is the eighth in a series of twenty-four items on events in the Persian Gulf.
This item concerns Hennell’s acquiescence to the request of Major Henry Rawlinson, Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], to send some vessels of the Persian Gulf squadron to Mohumrah [Khorramshahr] without receiving instructions to do so from Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Farrant, Her Majesty’s Chargé d’Affaires at Tehran, and the Governments of Bombay and India’s opinions on the matter.
